KID'S GUT HEALTH PROGRAM PERTH                                              $899

Underlying gut dysfunction may contribute to eczema, diarrhoea, bloating, food reactions and low immunity in children.

The Baby Biome and Paediatric Biome stool tests identify the specific imbalances causing your child's symptoms and treatment is built entirely around those findings.

You have taken your child to the GP more times than you can count. You have been told the eczema is just sensitive skin and given a steroid cream that doesn't work, the diarrhoea is just a phase, the food reactions are just normal childhood sensitivities. You have removed foods from their diet, sometimes it helps, sometimes it does not. The symptoms keep coming back.

Our program is designed to investigate your child's gut microbiome, intestinal inflammation, pathogen load, digestive function, immune activity and gut permeability. These are the findings that explain why so many chronically unwell children have clear standard test results and ongoing symptoms.

GUT HEALTH FOR KIDS PERTH

The gut-skin-immune connection in children

The gut is the foundation of immune function. In children whose immune systems are still developing, gut dysfunction has an outsized impact on almost every other body system.

Approximately 70% of the immune system is located in the gut wall. When a child's gut microbiome is imbalanced or the gut lining is compromised, the consequences show up across the body, including on the skin, in the immune system, and in the nervous system via the gut-brain axis. This is why so many children with eczema also have gut symptoms, why chronic gut issues so often accompany poor immunity, and why targeting the gut directly produces results that surface treatments alone cannot achieve.

Our Baby Biome and Paediatric Biome tests are specifically designed for children, using age-appropriate reference ranges rather than adult microbiome benchmarks, which means findings are clinically meaningful for your child's stage of development rather than compared against adult populations.

Eczema and the gut-skin axis

gut skin connection eczema.png

Research continues to highlight the close relationship between gut health and skin health, often referred to as the gut-skin axis. When the intestinal barrier becomes compromised, food proteins and bacterial by-products can pass into the bloodstream and stimulate immune responses that contribute to eczema, hives, and other allergic skin conditions.

Children with eczema frequently show signs of gut microbiome imbalance, known as dysbiosis. While topical treatments can help manage symptoms, identifying and addressing underlying gut dysfunction may provide more lasting improvements. Early-life gut microbiome development also plays a critical role in immune system programming and may influence a child's risk of developing allergic conditions.

Food allergies and gut permeability

The health of the intestinal barrier is an important factor in the development of food sensitivities and allergies. When the gut lining is impaired, food proteins may cross into the bloodstream and trigger immune responses that increase sensitisation over time.

By identifying and addressing factors contributing to increased intestinal permeability, it may be possible to reduce ongoing immune activation and support improved food tolerance.

Comprehensive gut testing helps identify the specific patterns of gut dysfunction contributing to food reactions, allowing treatment to focus on the underlying drivers rather than symptom management alone.

Immunity and recurrent illness

A large proportion of the immune system resides within the gastrointestinal tract, making gut health a key contributor to immune resilience. Secretory IgA, one of the body's primary immune defences within the gut, helps protect against pathogens and maintain healthy interactions between the immune system and gut microbiome.

Children with reduced gut immune function or microbiome imbalances may be more susceptible to recurrent infections, allergies, and other immune-related concerns. Supporting microbial diversity and improving gut immune health can play an important role in strengthening overall immune function and promoting long-term wellbeing.

Growth, appetite and nutrient absorption

Optimal growth depends not only on what a child eats, but also on how effectively they digest and absorb nutrients. Gut inflammation, digestive dysfunction, and malabsorption can interfere with nutrient uptake, meaning

some children may consume an adequate diet yet still struggle to meet their nutritional needs.

Reduced digestive enzyme activity can further affect the breakdown and absorption of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates, impacting energy levels, growth, and development. Poor appetite, selective eating, food aversions, and sensory sensitivities around food may also have a gut-related component, particularly when bloating, discomfort, or digestive symptoms occur after meals.

Two tests, designed specifically for children

Unlike the adult GI Map, which uses adult reference ranges, our paediatric microbiome testing kits are specifically calibrated for children at different life stages, making the clinical findings meaningful and actionable for your child's specific age and developmental stage.

designed to assess the developing gut microbiome in infants and young children. Early-life microbial colonisation plays a critical role in immune system development, metabolic programming, gut barrier integrity, and neuroendocrine signalling.
